Florence Pennell
June 17, 1924 – August 22, 2022
The family of the late Florence Pennell (nee Perry) would like to announce the peaceful passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on August 22, 2022, in her 99th year.
Florrie was a woman ahead of her time. She excelled as an educator and as a business woman, both as a store owner and in the hospitality industry. But most importantly she was a loving role model to her children and grandchildren. Her nurturing tendencies, however, extended beyond her family. She was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her busy work life did not prevent her from a good game of cards or a dance, as she was often the last person on the dance floor when a good band was playing.
Predeceased by her parents Patrick and Anne Perry, brother Gordon and sister-in-law Meta Perry, and loving husband Gordon Pennell.
Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life: her children, Carol Ann Devereaux, Rick (Anne Myrick) , Elaine (Lou Arcari), Florence (Gary Norris), and Francis (Christian) Deuticke; grandchildren John (Kate) Devereaux, Jenifer (Loren) Kielly, Chad and Chris (Ashley) Pennell, Susan (Dave Kaufman) and Anne Norris, Nicola (Janek), Florian and Claire Deuticke; great grandchildren Jonah and Reese Kielly, Molly and Lucy Devereaux, and Harper and Ford Pennell; sisters- in -law Sister Frances Pennell and Marie Pennell, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.
Florrie will also be remembered by a large circle of friends from Trepassey, Waterford Bridge Road, Summerville Condos and Meadow Creek Retirement Home. She will also be missed by her friends Jerome and Mary Devereaux and Bruce Halleran, who she considered extended family, Belle James, and her lifelong friend Ann Cahill.
A special thanks to the staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, Meadow Creek Retirement Home, and to Father Edward Sutton.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, visitation will take place on Monday, August 29, from 2:00 – 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Caul’s Chapel on Tuesday, August 30, at 11:30 am with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery (Field of Honor).
Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation can be made to the Gathering Place or a charity of choice.
