Felix Arnold Smit
(1928-2022)
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Felix Arnold Smit at St. Peter’s Hospital on January 16, 2022, in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Stravoula (Lou) Smit (nee Vlachos) of 56 years. Loving father to the late Catherine (Chris) Smit-Nestor, Pauline (Bern) Carty, Stephen (Huiyu) Smit, Louise (Mark) Giblin and Harry (Danielle) Smit. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie (Stefan), Adele (Marsel), Danielle (Peter), Stuart (Rachael), Michelle, Tara (Jay), Elaine, Christopher, Lea, Ariana, Dana, Ami (Aldo), Daniel and eight great-grandchildren. Felix was one of eleven children to the late Stephen and Catherine.
Dear brother of Jeannette and Johanna, and predeceased by siblings Meta, Marie, Lyda, Hank, Stephen, Harry, Peter and John. He was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada at 18 years old. He began a successful tailoring business, a talent that he practiced throughout his life. He then went on to work for 36 years at Stelco in the Metallurgical Department.
Felix lived to the fullest. He was a passionate swimmer with the accomplishment of swimming the distance of the five Great Lakes. He loved the outdoors, spending many hours in his garden. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #5860, and together with his wife enjoyed organizing the Annual Lobster Dinner. Felix was a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan who also enjoyed travelling and taking day trips with his wife.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (50 Brucedale Ave. E., Hamilton) on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. Anyone wishing to attend must RSVP below or by calling 905-388-4141, Masks must be worn and social distancing will be in place. A private family burial will take place. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Peter’s Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences or Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton would be appreciated.
