The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Lech Stanislaw Wycichowski, CR on January 26, 2022, of St. Stanislaus Parish, Hamilton. He was 75 years old, in his 57th year of religious life and 48th year of ordained priesthood.
Father Wycichowski is predeceased by his parents Jan and Jadwiga (nee Kolaska) and his sister Ewa (Mieczyslaw) Makowski. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sisters Halina (+Edwin) Makowski and her children Dagmara and Dariusz, and Iwona (Jan) Juras and their son Szymon, and by his many friends, parishioners and former students.
Father Wycichowski professed his religious vows in the Congregation on August 26, 1964 in Radziwillow, Poland and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on June 9, 1973 in Krakow, Poland.
Fr. Lech began his ministry in 1973 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows (Sanktuarium Matki Bozej Bolesnej) in Sulislawice. From 1975 to 1986 he ministered in the following places in Poland: Poznan-Wilda, Krakow, Zlocieniec, Poznan-Smochowice, Wierzchowo and Bytom. He served as Associate Pastor and catechist with children and youth and taught religion for 30 hours a week while fulfilling his pastoral duties at the parish. In April 1986 Fr. Lech came to Canada where he served as Associate Pastor at St. Joseph’s Parish in Brantford until 1991. In 1994 Fr. Lech formally transferred to the Ontario-Kentucky Province. His next appointment was as Associate Pastor at St. Stanislaus Parish, Hamilton where he minister-ed until 2013. Fr. Lech became Associate Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Kitchener in 2013. In 2020 Fr. Lech ministered at St. Joseph’s Parish, Brantford for one year. In December of 2021 he retired as a priest in residence to St. Stanislaus Parish, Hamilton.
Fr. Lech served on the Spirituality Committee and acted as House Superior for St. Stanislaus House for two consecutive three year terms.
A man of deep faith, hope and love Father Wycichowski`s life of faithful service touched the lives of his brother religious, parishioners, and family during his life of dedicated ministry. He had a special devotion to the Divine Mercy and to St. Faustyna Kowalska and to St. John Paul II, the latter of whom he met in person on a couple of occasions. He also loved leading pilgrimages to the Holy Land, which he prayerfully visited several times.
A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 3:30 P.M. for Fr. Wycichowski at St. Stanislaus Parish, 8 Saint Ann Street, Hamilton, on Tuesday, February 1st. Visitation will take place from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Rosary at 7:30 P.M. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Parish at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 2nd.
Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener following Mass. Due to Covid 19 protocols, those wishing to attend Visitation or Funeral Mass must RSVP through the funeral home website or by calling 905-388-4141.
