Fairlie Juanita Midgie Lynds 1935 2022

Fairlie
Juanita “Midgie”
Lynds – 86, Valley,
formerly of Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving
family, on Sunday morning, January 30, 2022, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Truro,
Mom’s name was chosen from a book her mother loved, and she
was nicknamed “Midgie” as a little girl. As a child, she
played piano and spent wonderful times at her
grandparent’s home in Bible Hill and with her siblings on
Logan Street, including helping neighbors on Queen Street run errands.
In her teen years, her family moved to Ontario. She was happy to
return to Truro years later to marry our Dad, Gordon, the love of her
life. Mom loved to cook and bake, especially biscuits, squares, apple
pies and her infamous lemon tarts. She loved to listen to Dean Martin
albums, enjoyed her soap operas and kept an immaculate home. She loved
to decorate and watch home improvement shows on television. She and
Dad were light on their feet and loved to dance, especially the
polka.
In later
years, Mom loved attending dances at the church and later at Douglas
Street Recreation Centre. She was a faithful member of
Brunswick Street United Church, having served as an Elder for many
years and always worked at the bazaars and teas and served on
different committees. Wherever there was a need, she could always be
counted upon. Mom and her sister, Phyllis, were devoted to their
parents, especially during their last years. There were no two more
caring daughters.
Mom was
predeceased by our Dad, Gordon; her parents, Francis and Myrtle
(Whidden-Smith) Walsh; siblings and spouses, Dorothy (Millard) Rector,
Theresa (George) Burley, Verna (Russell) Stone, Dr. Wyllie (Kaye)
Smith, Gerald.
She is
survived by her sons, Philip (Donna) and Jeffrey (Shawn);
grandchildren, Meghan (Jason Ede), Andrew (Summer Henwood), Benjamin
(Meredith Hebert), Hutchinson (Dionna Wells); great
granddaughter, Scotlyn; sister, Phyllis Hinton, Truro; brother,
Russell (Maureen) Walsh, Dartmouth; sister-in- law, Delores Lynds;
several nieces and nephews; lifelong best friend, Betty
Taylor.
Special thanks
are extended to Dr. Henderson, Dr. Maya, the nurses in the Palliative
Care Unit at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their exceptional
care and support and to Dr. Don Rowe and nurse Julia whose treatment
over the last number of months went above and beyond. Without their
love and support, this journey would have been a lot harder.
Private
funeral service will be held at Brunswick Street United Church, 250
Brunswick Street, Truro; webcasting of the funeral service will be
available at 2 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2022, and will remain on this
website for some time. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery, 125
Robie Street, Truro. No flowers by family request, please. If so
desired, donations in Midgie’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society or
Brunswick Street United Church are welcomed.
