Everek “Ev” Frederick Monk, formerly of RR1 Elmwood, passed away at Hanover Care Centre, on Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was 80.
Born in Hanover, Ontario, on June 20, 1942, to the late Alfred and Wilma (nee Sachs) Monk. Ev worked at many different jobs and careers over his lifetime. Some may remember him from his years working at the Hanover Dairy, New Life Mills, a few years as a police office in Kitchener-Waterloo, and running a restaurant in Elmwood called Monk’s Restaurant and ESSO. However, Ev was always a farmer at heart, and loved all animals. He had a a beef herd of Charolais cattle and enjoyed the hard work farming had to offer. Ev was married to the love of his life, Gail, for over 58 years, and they enjoyed their many years living together on the farm, and raising their family.
Survived by devoted wife Gail (nee Ruhl) Monk of RR1 Elmwood. Loved father of Steven (Janet) Monk of Shelburne and Glenn (Kim) Monk of Marl Lakes. Honourary Grandpa of 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Murray (Rebecca) Monk of Hurkett, Doris (Larry) Milligan of Allan Park, Susan McDermott of Milton, and Kathleen (Doug) Monk-Hocking of Exeter. Brother-in-law of Brenda (Bruce) Kaufman of Hanover, and Vincent Ruhl of Alma. Dearly missed by his special fur babies Tower and Eiffie. Predeceased by his parents, step-mother Edna Schlotzhauer, brother-in-law Robert McDermott and sister in law Kelley (Vincent) Ruhl.
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elmwood, on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 10-11:15 am, where a Funeral Service will follow 11:30 am. Pastor Catherine House officiating. Interment in Hanover Cemetery. For those unable to attend the service, it will be recorded and available to view within a few days following the service, posted on Ev’s obituary page on the funeral home website.
