Obituary
Tuesday June 28, 2022, at the age of 91, Evelyn Dicks passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Health Sciences Center with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Originally from Harbour Buffett, Placentia Bay, Evelyn is predeceased by the love of her life (Emmanuel), her mother and father (Rachel Ann and William); brothers Stanley (Frances, Dorcas), Aubrey, Albert (Effie), Lewis (Lillie), Freeman (Ethel), and Charlie (Audrey); sisters Edna (Phil) and Eliza.
Leaving to mourn with happy memories are her three loving daughters, Brenda (Garry), Sherry (Manuel), and Darlene; her four beautiful grandchildren, Michelle (Dave), David, Lorie (Kory), and Julia (Bill); her treasured great-grandson, Liam; and her caring brother, Donald (Pearl).
Also leaving to mourn are a large circle of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her nephew Harold, whom she thought fondly of, and many special friends.
Evelyn was a very thoughtful person, who treated everyone she met with kindness. She was a strong and independent woman. She had a fantastic sense of humor, being both quick witted and quick to laugh. She was youthful in appearance, and truly young at heart. Evelyn loved to trout and to camp. She enjoyed planting her garden in New Perlican. She was always ready for a game, whether it was playing scrabble with her friend, Fay, playing 120s with Helen, Kim, Glenys and Tish or having a game of 31 with her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a fabulous friend to all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.
The family would like to thank Courtney’s paramedic team for their quick and gentle response, as well as the staff of the Emergency Room and of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre, especially her nurse Tina, pastoral care Dave Guzzwell, and Dr.’s Hall, Leung and Short, for their thoughtful and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. She will be resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home on 328 Hamilton Ave in St. John’s, with visitation on Monday July 4, 2022 from 12-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from Barrett’s Memorial Chapel on Tuesday July 5, 2022 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Evelyn’s memory.
A special smile, a special face,
