Evelyn Belle Kenney
1935-2022
It is with sadness
that we announce the passing of Evelyn Kenney of Scotch Settlement NB
on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Moncton Hospital after a brief
illness. Born in Scotch Settlement she was the daughter of the late
Ross and Coralie (Teed) Gillespie.
Evelyn graduated from
Moncton High School in 1953 and worked for Eaton’s and then
NBTel until she moved to Toronto and began working for Bell Canada in
1963. She retired from Bell Canada in 1990 and moved back to Moncton
with her husband. She was a cancer survivor, participated in Relay for
Life and volunteered for the cancer society for many
years.
Evelyn loved all
animals but was especially fond of her cats. She loved gardening,
scrapbooking, quilting and was very interested in genealogy. She was a
loving, generous person who loved to talk to people. She was loved in
return by the many friends and members of all the groups she involved
herself in. She attended St. John’s United
Church.
Evelyn will be dearly
missed by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Cecil Kenney, nephews and
nieces: Richard and Audrey Gillespie, Rachel Roy, Jim and Graciel
McArdle, Kevin and Michele Keys, Darrell and Eugenie Embree, great
nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and niece in New Brunswick,
her sister-in-law Gladys Kenney, as well as her nephews and nieces in
Ontario.
Aside from her
parents, she was predeceased by three brothers: Robert, Leonard, and
infant brother Richard.
Respecting her wishes,
cremation has taken place at Cobb’s Funeral Home and
Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). Donations
made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Friends of The Moncton
Hospital would be appreciated by her family. Her burial will take
place at the Scotch Settlement Cemetery at a later date.
