Eunice Bellows 2022

Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Eunice Bellows announces her passing at the Canora Hospital, Canora, SK, on July 9, 2022, at the age of 97 years.
Although her birth certificate states September 3, 1924, as her official date of birth, Eunice was born on June 15, 1924, on the family farm north of Hyas, SK, to Nicoli and Nellie (nee Verbowski) Dutcyvich. She was the second youngest and grew up with her six brothers.
When Eunice was 13 years old, her mother died and she was left with much of the responsibility of the household and caring for her 17-month-old brother, Ernie. Her father heard of a young widow working near Pelly, SK. He went there and she agreed to be his wife. Dora became Eunice’s stepmom, and they enjoyed a close relationship which continued until her passing.
In 1945, Eunice married Wilfred Bellows. On the farm near Hyas, SK, they raised their seven children. Life on the farm was always a busy place, with many difficult times. Eunice was always there for her family and their needs. She was always giving of herself and as her family was always her first priority, they never lacked or felt unloved by her.
Eunice was a dedicated member of the Hyas Baptist Church, where she worshipped for many years. Her faith and trust in God guided her throughout her life. In her later years, with the help of her dear friend Margarita Fehr, she enjoyed the fellowship of the local Mennonite community at their church north of Hyas.
In 1976, Eunice moved to Hyas, where she lived until her recent sudden illness. From 1979 until her retirement, she worked as a cook at the Norquay Hospital. Her retirement was busy, and her days were filled with gardening, canning to provide for her family, spending time with grandkids, making perogies, and making quilts in the winter for every family member. With her daughter, Marilyn, she was able to travel to New Zealand and on an Alaskan cruise. She also traveled to the East Coast with all her daughters and enjoyed many trips and visits to other places with family and friends.
Over Eunice’s 98 years, she had countless friends spanning over generations. Her gift of hospitality and sincere caring and compassionate spirit endured her to all. The passing of Eunice will leave an empty place in many people’s lives. Her light will continue to shine in the memories she has left in their hearts and minds. The influences she had on those around her will allow each of us to carry a part of her light forth in our own lives.
Eunice was predeceased by her parents, Nicoli and Nellie; stepmother, Dora; one sister in infancy; and her brothers, Carl, Mike, Frank, Lewis, Jim, and Ernie and their spouses; as well as many dear friends and relatives.
She is survived by her children: Randy (Bev), Lorne (Judy), Gordon (Brenda), Marilyn, Lorraine, Cheryl, and Kelly; and her 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In Eunice’s honour, a Public Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, July 14, 2022. The Graveside/Committal Service will continue at 10:00 am, Friday, July 15, 2022, at Stoney Creek Cemetery, between Stenen and Hyas, SK, and the Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Pastor Frankie Kim officiating.
