Obituary
Eugene Barbutza died peacefully at home December 18, 2022 at age 90. He was born at the family home in Notikewin on June 5, 1932, the third child of Tony and Aurie Barbutza, who had immigrated from Romania to homestead in the Peace Region. He is survived by his daughter Tami (Asser) Ghazouly, his son Bruce (Jennel) Barbutza, his grandchildren David, Evan (Katherine) and Tara Ghazouly, Jasmine, Kalei and Brandon Barbutza, and his youngest sister Rose Nichols, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Victor, sisters Marie Friesen and Evelyn Little and grandson Aron Ghazouly.
Eugene was a lifelong resident of Manning, taking over the family farm in Notikewin in the 1960’s until his retirement in 1997. He was a hard-working farmer, and during the winter season worked as a mechanic. Even after his retirement he continued living an active lifestyle, cutting wood and driving to the farm every day to check on the crops.
As per Eugene’s request, no memorial service will be observed. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
