Obituary of Ethel McKillop
McKillop (Clark), Ethel- born June 22, 1921, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England; died January 1, 2022, Truro, NS. Survived by children Brian (Cheryl) McKillop, Judith (the late Russell) Stoddart, and David (the late Leslie) McKillop; grandchildren Aaron Stoddart, Cara Stoddart, Tracy Benson, Christopher (Michelle) McKillop, Daniel McKillop, Robin Ashley (Shawn) Levy; great-grandchildren Hayden, Colby, Haleigh, Katie, Georgia, Kayden, Sara, and Jillian Ethel; and great-great-grandchildren Sierra, Selena, and Stiorra.
Pre-deceased by her parents Edward and Celia Clark, her husband Walter A. McKillop (1991) and his parents Edgar (Ella May); siblings Lawrence, Norman, Edith, Sidney, Bertha, Gladys, Cecil, and their spouses, all of the UK; brothers- and sisters-in-law George (Gladys), Bill (Marion), Stan (Annie), Albert (Hazel), Earl, Milt (Ruth), Ralph, Helen (Francis) Cavicchi, and Annie.
Ethel served 5 years in the Royal Air Force during WWII; came to Canada as a War Bride, living in Stewiacke from 1946 to 2017; sang for 60 years in the St. Andrew’s United Church choir; enjoyed baking, knitting, rug hooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and participating in musical events, and church functions; embraced technology in her final years, with books on tape and Audible Books and FaceTime on an iPad. Amid Covid restrictions last June, Ethel was able to celebrate her 100th birthday, the first member of both the Clark and McKillop families to reach this milestone.
The family would like to recognize the wonderful and loving care Ethel received from the staffs of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow and of Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. These unsung heroes have our greatest respect and admiration. Appreciation is also extended to Veteran Affairs Canada for its support.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, NS, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8 at 11 a.m. COVID-19 regulations are to be adhered to. Masks are required and proof of vaccination will be required to attend the funeral.
Ethel will be laid to rest next to her husband in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. Those wishing to make a donation in her memory may want to consider NS Lung Association, MS Society, or Pine Grove Cemetery.
