Harry James Estabrooks
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the death of Harry Estabrooks who passed away on April 26th 2022 from complications following surgery. He was 81 years old. Harry was the son of Irene Thornton and Vernon Estabrooks and was raised by his mom and step-father Ralph Craig. He is survived by his wife Alice Thorne of more than 50 years and was step-father to her 11 children.
Anne (Federico), Carol (the late Wayne), Marie, George (Emma) John, Jean-Emily (Costa), Diane (Nelson) Leona (Rob) Nancy (Pierre). Predecesed by her 2 other sons Albert & Peter. He also leaves behind his sister Drusilla (the late Ron) and brother Nelson (Jacquie). He is also survived by numerous, grand children and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts and many friends.
Harry was born in Sackville, New Brunswick and followed in his dads footsteps by joining the military. His father Vernon Estabrooks was killed on the HMCS Margaree in October 1940 when Harry was just 5 months old. Harry joined the U.S. military at 22 years old. He was an E4 Specialist Paratrooper and was in the 1st Cavalry in Vietnam 1965.
He was an avid fisherman and guitar player and always had country music playing.
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Jewish General Hospital CDICU and notably Drs. Felix Ma, Dr. Jed Lipes and Dr. Patricia McMillan for the care given to Harry.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association or Heart and Stroke foundation.
A celebration of his life will take place on May7th, 2022 at Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd. Montreal 2-5 and 7-9.
