Erwin Frederick Nesselbeck July 7 1934 – May 30 2022

Erwin Frederick Nesselbeck passed away at Point Grey Hospital in Vancouver, BC on May 30, 2022 at the age of 88 years old . Erwin Nesselbeck was born in Battleford, Saskatchewan on July 7, 1934, to Reynold and Ernestine (nee Reichle) Nesselbeck. Erwin is survived and cherished by his loving wife, the love of his life for 63 years, Elizabeth (Betty, 86 years), his four children, Douglas Nesselbeck, Sandra McKay, and twins Peter (Cindy) Nesselbeck, and David (Kippy) Nesselbeck; his grandchildren: Kristine, Taylor (Greg), Joelle, Brody, Shae, Michael, Daniel and Leah; his great grandchildren: Lennon, Harry; as well as his sisters, Dorothy Evancio of Winnipeg, MB, Ellen Kelba of Cochrane, AB; Esther Magosse of Murray Lake, SK; Marlyn (Keith) Jensen of High River, AB; Luisa Sivacoe of Calgary, AB; Cathy Nesselbeck of Calgary, AB; and his sister-in-law, Meda Nesselbeck of Edmonton, AB. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ernestine and Reynold, brothers Conrad, Donald and Richard and sister, Deloris. Erwin was raised in Battleford, SK and attended St. Vital Catholic School and St Thomas Moore college. As a young man, Erwin got a job with International Harvester and moved to Edmonton. He was introduced to Betty by her sister, Marion, at the local pool. At the time, Betty was at the University of Alberta completing her nursing degree. Erwin and Betty were married in Olds, Alberta on January 31, 1959, when Erwin was 24 and Betty was 22. Within the next four years they had four children. Erwin moved on to work for Investors Syndicate and traveled through Alberta as a financial advisor to many farmers and other Albertans for 30 years. The family spent much time at Gull Lake where Erwin and Betty eventually bought a summer cottage. When the kids were teenagers, they moved the family to an acreage just outside of Edmonton on Windermere Drive. There were many happy family times between the acreage and the cottage at Gull Lake over the years. Erwin was a councilman for the Village of Gull Lake. In 1982, Erwin left his job at Investors Syndicate and moved to Sooke, BC where he bought Sooke Rentals. Erwin and Betty built a beautiful home on the Sooke waterfront (Sea Lion Way). He loved the coastal life and living in the community of Sooke. He was a member of the Sooke Lions Club and he took pride in projects like the ongoing care of the Sooke Harbour cemetery and the community park. As his children married and had their own children, Sooke was the place where the family gathered, fished in his fishing boat, caught crab, had big family walks on the Wiffenspit and had many family dinners and celebrations. Erwin and Betty have lived the past several years in Vancouver, BC where they have been surrounded by their children. Erwin led his life with the family values passed on to him by his parents. He has instilled those values in his children and grandchildren. He believed in honesty, hard work and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed, and we will forever cherish his spirit and our memories of him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
