1933-2022
MONCTON, NB – J. Ernest Leblanc, formerly of
Rexton, passed away peacefully at the Veterans’ Health
Centre, Moncton on Monday, May 2nd, 2022. Born
in Rexton, he was the son of the late Richard and Marguerite
(Blanchard) Leblanc.
Ernest joined the R.C.A.F. in 1953 and served until 1958. He
started work at the Post Office in Hamilton, ON in 1960 and worked
there for 19 years until he transferred to the Moncton Post Office
where he worked for another two years before taking early retirement
on disability. He was a mail-sorter in the post office.
After retirement, Ernie took the GED exam to complete his
high school and then undertook ten years of part-time study leading to
a BA degree from Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB. He also
worked for several years as a genealogical researcher and was
accredited by the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes. He also
volunteered at the Ray of Hope Needy Kitchen, where he worked for over
15 years. He stood in as General Manager of the kitchen on two
occasions.
He enjoyed photography all his life and he collected stamps
and red books and papers all his adult life.
Ernie leaves to mourn his loving wife, Mary Laura (Sawyer)
Leblanc, whom he married in 1964 in Hamilton, ON; as well as his son
John Gerald of Moncton.
Ernie is also survived by his four sisters, Mary Martin of
Rexton, Theresa Fagan (Patrick) of Bedec, NB, June Maillet of Moncton
and Donalda Price (Gary) of Rexton; his four brothers, Malcolm
(Audrey) of Moncton, Gerard (Debbie) of Salisbury, Harry (Viola) of
Alberta and Raymond (Marilyn) of Saint John; his sister-in-law, June
of Moncton; as well as by his many nieces and nephews.
Ernie was predeceased by his mother in 1981 and by his father
in 1991. Besides his parents, Ernie was predeceased by his brother,
Roy.
Following Ernie’s wishes, there will be no
visitation at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on
Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 at 2:00pm, Immaculate
Conception Roman Catholic Church, Rexton, with interment to follow in
the parish cemetery.
Due to allergies within the family,
the family requests a scent free environment, no perfumes or fresh
flowers. Only artificial flowers
please.
