Ernest “Ernie” Edward Jean DeViller
March 27, 1934- November 6, 2022
DEVILLER, Ernest “Ernie” Edward Jean of The Meadows, Home for Special Care, Yarmouth and formerly of Melbourne passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 with his family at his side. Born March 27, 1934 in Pinkney’s Point, Ernest was the son of the late Willie and Lena (Deveau) DeViller.
Ernie fished all of his life, starting at the age of 7 with his father. He passed the life of a fisherman on to his four sons and one daughter. A man of many talents, Ernie was a very hard worker. After retiring Ernie spent many happy days with his wife Connie camping, especially at Ellenwood, attending Blue Grass Festivals in NS, NB, PEI, and Maine, and they spent a lot of time fishing at the wharf. Ever the fisherman he was always asking the boys how fishing was going and was always willing to help a hand if they needed things repaired. Ernie loved to play cards and he and Connie hosted many a card game at their home. They taught all their children, grandchildren and even some of the grandchildren how to play different card games. Ernie really liked to play crib and was known as the “King of Crib” at the Meadows.
Ernie is survived by his children, Yvette (Harry) Frost, Yarmouth; Paulette (Robert) Flynn, Meteghan Station; Gene (Rhonda) DeViller, Melbourne; Chris (Brenda) DeViller, Melbourne; Cedric DeViller, Yarmouth; Kelvin (Irene) DeViller, Melbourne; Cherie (Bill) Hemeon, Arcadia; Shirley (Neil) d’Entremont, Melbourne.
Ernie loved his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Dee”: Craig, Melissa, Crissy, Kevin, Melanie, Aaron, Kayla, Nick, Jessie, Samantha, Taylor, Katie, Ethan and Owen. Ernie was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: Lillian, Landon, Alyssa, Haley, Payton, Gray, Sloan, Kingston, Rowan, Otto, Leo, Declan, Adelyn and Axel. He is survived by his sister, Addie
Ernie was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Constance (Connie); brothers, Lawrence, Stanley, Erwin, Frank. Howard, Larry and Wallace; sisters, Evangeline, Celina, Genevieve, Mathilde and Corrine; half brothers, William Jr., Edmond, Adolphe, Albany and half sisters, Jeanette and Rita.
Visitation will be take place from 6-8 p.m. with evening prayers at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Melbourne on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Internment for both Ernie and Connie will follow the service at the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Melbourne.
