Ermes De Luisa died peacefully February 3rd at Health Sciences North. He was 89 years old. Born in Udine, Italy, January 1, 1933, to Guispinna Orsettigh and Ferdinando De Luisa. Loving brother of Luigi De Luisa (predeceased). Beloved husband to Emilia De Luisa (Bon) (predeceased) and loving father to Elizabeth De Luisa and Paul De Luisa (wife Alison). Cherished and entertaining Nonno to Paul and Luke Flewwelling and Derek and Christoper De Luisa, and uncle to Tina Oliveria (De Luisa) and Ed, Mark, Frank, and Loraine Bon.
Ermes was a unique man who left a memorable impression on all who met him. A big character with huge spirit, kind heart and endless charm, he was always ready with a quick joke or funny story and had the gift of the gab and could engaged anyone in conversation no matter where he met them. He had a soft spot for the underdog and, when he could, would give them a chance.
In August of 1948, Ermes and his family immigrated from Italy after his father had returned from a WWII POW camp. The family settled in Sudbury and Ermes worked as a mason’s helper to his Uncle Pattui and eventually took over Nickel Belt Masonry working as few do – with their hands and backs, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. He did this to build a new life in a new country and to support his family. He is one of the last true bricklayers who valued craftmanship over all else. The loss of his knowledge and skill set is irreplaceable.
Ermes’ personal sacrifices and commitment to family opened opportunities for his children and grandsons that allowed them to flourish and enjoy life.
Leaving us with many stories that will forever make us smile and laugh, Ermes was a unique, honest, and good man.

Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may gather from 4-8pm Friday. Funeral prayers in the R. J. Barnard Chapel on Saturday, February 12th, 2022 at 12pm. Interment in the Civic Memorial Cemetery.
