Eric (Rick) Frances Slaney
(Aug 20, 1944 – May 28th, 2022)
It is with profound sadness that we announce d peaceful passing of Eric (Rick) Frances Slaney at age 77 on May 28th, 2022 surrounded by his family. Born Aug 20th, 1944 in St. Lawrence NL, to Michael and Martha Slaney. Spending 6 years with the Canadian Armed Forces and 30 years as an elementary and Jr. High teacher in various schools such as Holy Cross, St. Francis of Assisi, and Holy Trinity.
A devoted husband, father, and unapologetic Toronto Maple Leafs Fan; Rick as he was known was predeceased by his mother and father, brother, Vince Slaney, and Sisters: Dora Muise, Sheila Slaney, and Carrie Hennebury.
Leaving to Mourn his Wife Marguerite Slaney ( nee McCarthy), Daughters: Pamela Cooke (James) and Michelle Trovato (Eddie), their mother Patricia Byrne, and Grandchildren Aidan and Danielle Cooke, Matteo and Enrique Trovato; along with 4 step-children: Derm Bradbury, Deirdre Bradbury, Kathleen Bradbury and Gail Bradbury, and Granddaughter Danielle Bowen.
Leaving behind his devoted Brothers: Ignatius Slaney (Jeanette), Terrance Slaney (Margaret), Mike Slaney, and a large circle of family and friends.
To the wonderful staff of the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion VP2 South and those who looked after him on VP2: thank you for the care, kindness, patience, and respect that you showed him over the last five years, he loved you all, you were his family too. A special thank you to Dr. Michelle Levy for your support and kindness while he was your patient.
At Rick’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no public service. Donations in his memory can be made to the Jim Shields Memorial Garden c/o Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion VP2 South, your local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, or online at Legion Donations
