Obituary For Emma Dalen
Emma Dalen resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the age of 93 years.
She was born on September 29, 1928, in Anselmovska, Russia. She arrived in Canada, December 1932, with her mother and three siblings. They
joined with their father and the family moved to a homestead in the Hines Creek, AB, area.
Her early education was in a one room country schoolhouse, then she took correspondence courses before going to Alberta College in Edmonton, AB, where she became a legal secretary. This was the beginning of a lifelong interest in the field of Law. Her first job brought her to Grande Prairie. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Norman Dalen, and they were happily married for 53 years, until his passing in 2004.
Emma enjoyed learning. She enrolled in many different language courses over the years from Cree to Ukrainian, and she was also quite accomplished
when it came to arts and crafts.
She was truly an amazing, loving, and patient mother. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow into successful, talented members of society. When the great-grandchildren were welcomed into the family, her love for them
was boundless and overflowing. They brought so much life and energy to her days.
One of the valuable lessons she passed on to all of us was to take time to care for and enjoy the beauty of nature, and the world around us. She felt that
quiet moments taking in the sounds and fragrance of a forest, or a flower garden on a sunny day, was so very healing to the body, mind, and soul. The Dalen family farm was one such place.
Left to cherish her love and the memory of her smile, her strong faith in God, and the enjoyment she found in each and every day are her children: Gerry (Jody), Herb (Michelle), Eleanor (Dennis), Karen (James), and Dennis (Barb); grandchildren: Michael (Lynsey), Elizabeth (Chris Madeira), Matthew (Holly Kroeker), Kale, Owen, Quintin, and Perri; great-grandchildren who kept her feeling young: Sophia, Maisie, Alexis, and Grayson. Our very special family friend who Mom considered another son, Ken Peterson (Shannon) and family are also mourning Emma’s passing. Also grieving are her sisters Olga Belke, and Agnes Miller (Pablo); brother Alvin Hanert (Dawna) all of Calgary, AB; brother Gerry (Adeline) Hanert of Kelowna, BC; as well as many nieces, nephews, and very dear friends.
Emma was predeceased by her husband Norman Dalen in 2004, and her son Timmy in 1968.
Emma’s Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 2:00pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Grande Prairie (10407-100 Street). Interment to follow service at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. and 112th St.).
