Emily’s Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of the late Emily Frances Short (nee Patey), announce her peaceful passing with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques at the age of 93 years. Born in Middle Barachois, Emily was the last surviving member of the Patey family and will forever remain in the hearts of her loving children; Steward (Jane) Short, Wilson Short of whom she resided with, Francis (Carol Ann) Short, Absalom Jr. (Sheila) Short all of Cape Ray, Eugene (Lavinia) Short of McDougalls, Pauline Pearce of Port aux Basques, Catherine Pye of St. John’s, Maisie (Rev. Vernon) Short of Flower’s Cove, Mary Short (Ennis) of Cape Ray, sister-in-law; Nora Patey of Cape Ray, 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Emily was predeceased by her parents; Robert and Annie Patey (nee Osmond), husband; Absalom, infant son, son; Chesley (Mildred) Short, daughter-in-law; Virgina Short, grandsons; Travis Pye, Craig Short, brothers; Norman (Jane) Patey, George Patey, Ross (Gertie) Patey, Isaac Patey, sisters; Mary Alice (Sandy) Hodder and Gertrude Patey.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre for the wonderful care they have given our Mom, all of the home support workers over the years, Rev. Faye Coffin for the visits and lovely service also to East Haven Funeral Home for their professional services.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26th at 2 p.m. from St. John The Evangelist Church in Cape Ray officiated by Rev. Faye Coffin. Interment to follow at St. John The Evangelist Cemetery in Cape Ray. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Emily’s memory can be made to the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre.
