Emil was born on a farm near Gravelbourg, SK on October 24, 1935. He farmed in the area with his family and worked in a garage in Assiniboia, SK until 1955 when he moved to Regina, SK to complete his mechanic apprenticeship. He moved to Flin Flon, MB in 1961, where he met Susan in February 1962, while driving the city bus. They were married on November 10th of that same year. Emil had a very strong work ethic and was not afraid to make positive changes in life in order to provide the best for his family. He, Susan and their daughters moved to Moose Jaw, SK in 1966 where he started a water well drilling company with his brother, Ron and brother-in-law, Willis. The family moved to Camrose, AB in 1968 where Emil worked as a mechanic and then to Parksville, BC in 1974 where he owned a Texaco gas station in Nanaimo. In 1977, they moved to Swift Current, SK where Emil resumed his water well drilling company and later owned a water pump business to service wells and irrigation systems on local farms. He retired in 1996 and built a home with Susan in Vernon, BC. Emil and Sue enjoyed traveling in their RV throughout Canada and spent many winters in Yuma, AZ. They moved to Medicine Hat in 2006 to be closer to family. Along with having high morals and values, Emil was kind, generous and helpful. He was a mentor and leader to many. He loved country music and dancing and was talented at playing the harmonica and yodeling. Visiting with family and friends over a few drinks was one of his favorite things to do. Emil was quick to tease, joke, laugh and share a big smile with his mischievous blue eyes shining. He loved camping with his grandchildren, gardening, tinkering in his garage and won many awards for his wood carving skills. Emil needed to keep busy and was always mastering a new hobby; his talents were many. Emil will be fondly remembered by those who were lucky to have known him and his spirit and zest for life will be dearly missed. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a proud grandpa and a good friend. Thank you to all the staff at Masterpiece Southland Meadows for the special care they provided Emil over the past several years; you are truly his Masterpiece family. A celebration of Emil’s life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
