She is survived by her sister-in-law Jeanne Laudin and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry (2006) and brother Alfons Laudin (2010) and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Emgard was born on August 16, 1921 in Friedingen, Germany to Erich and Minna Laudin. In 1926, her family came to Canada and settled on a farm near Brunkild, MB. She attended both Brunkild and Gretna schools. She became a permit teacher in 1941 and taught in Ashern, MB. She went to Normal School in 1942 and received her teaching certificate. She taught school for two years (1943-1944) in Rosebank, MB.
She married Henry Rausch on December 20, 1945 and with grit and determination they built a successful family farm. Emgard drove farm equipment and fed family and workers with meals in the field. She grew a big garden in the summer and did lots of preserving in the fall. Her love of gardening and hatred of weeds was astounding. Her flowers and yard were beautiful thanks to her hard work. She loved to burn straw in the fields in the fall, especially flax straw.
Emgard was an active member of the community. She was a local school board trustee for five years and substitute teacher. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and president of the Women’s Missionary Society. She read her Bible faithfully and most Sundays she would watch her favorite church services on TV.
She had a great love of family and was always interested in what was going on in our lives. Emgard had other hobbies besides gardening. She was an avid reader; she knitted and crochet everything from booties to afghans. Her needlepoint pictures grace the walls of family and friends. She and Henry enjoyed many memorable trips to Europe, Israel, Egypt, Hawaii, the US and Mexico.
She resided at Lindenwood Terrace for fourteen years and made many new friends. Due to failing health she spent the last few months at the Golden Links Lodge.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home for their compassionate care that they provided to mom.
Cremation has taken place. Due to current restrictions a service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
