Emelio’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable man, Marty Martinello who has reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Mary on March 24, 2022. Devoted, proud and loving father to Lynn (Frank) Strycharz, Marty Jr. Martinello and Mike (Lynn) Martinello. Adored Nonno to Dan Strycharz, Chantal (Paul) Roberto and Crystal (Matt) Lupal. Great-grandfather to Luca, Noah, Jaxton, Peyton, Violet and Sloane. Marty is the son of the late Rosina and late Felice Martinello. He was the adored brother of Frank (Lily), the late Ralph (late Rosalie) (late Lina Biancucci), Annie (late Dave) Dolson, Margaret (Joe) Scime, Felice, and the late Florence (late Dan) Guiliani. Cherished son-in-law of the late Concetta (late Alfonso) Giannasi. Loving brother-in-law to the late Geni (late Frank) McMahon, Orlando (late Betty) Giannasi, the late Guido (late Marie) Giannasi, Adele (late Mario) Granata. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
It would be hard to reflect on all of Marty’s extraordinary accomplishments throughout his life. Marty engaged in many different amateur and professional sports throughout his years. However, his true passion was for football which led him to a professional career spanning over fourteen years. He had the privilege of playing for many different organizations, including Montreal Alouettes, the BC Lions, the Toronto Argonauts and finishing his years in his hometown with the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Most notably, his football career afforded Marty a Grey Cup ring and a place in the Sport Hall of Fame in his birth city of Nova Scotia. Through football was his passion, Marty always recognized the value of a good education and while playing professional ball, he completed eleven years of night school which concluded with a combined degree in metallurgy and business administration. Marty went on to become a respected member of the professional community as a successful business manager for Intermetco Ltd. For all those that knew Marty and Mary, their life was centered around family and friends. Their home was always open to entertaining and their kindness and generosity was felt by all. This tradition continued into Marty’s retirement years, where his fondest memories were the many winter vacations to Florida with his loving wife, his family, and his friends. As a long- time member of the Glendale Golf and Country Club, he enjoyed many rounds of golf and hours of entertainment playing cards with the guys. Marty was a man of few words, but his acts of love, devotion and strength spoke volumes. His commitment to family was steadfast and true. His undeniable faith in God gave him much guidance and peace as he navigated through life’s journey, both the challenges and the blessings. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Alipio and staff, as well as the caregivers at Wentworth Heights Retirement Home, for their many years of support. Further, much thanks are extended to Dr. Alton and the entire palliative team at St. Joseph’s Hospital, to Evelyn, and to all family and friends who have shown so much love and kindness through these difficult times.
Visitation will be held at the Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton St. East, Hamilton on Sunday March, 27th from 2-4pm and from 6-9p.m. Prayers will be offered at 2:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish (Corpus Christi Site), 1694 Upper James Street, Hamilton on March 28th, 2022 at 10 am. Interment will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 600 Spring Gardens Rd., Burlington in Our Lady of Victory Mausoleum.
Marty lived his life as a humble man, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. With this in mind, in lieu of flowers, donations to Mission Services, where those less fortunate could benefit, would be greatly appreciated.
