It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elwood Haydalo (age 71) at the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He fought hard to defeat the disease, but sadly it was not meant to be.
Elwood was predeceased by his parents Mike and Mary Haydalo; brother-in-law Jim Parks; and nephew Wesley Parks. Elwood leaves to cherish his memory his husband, Fred Bordas; sons Christopher and Steven, along with their mother Renee Haydalo; sister Helen Parks; nieces Liz Bonter (Wes), Carman Parks (Owen) and Shannon Herschmiller (Trevor); nephew Scott Parks (Tammy); great-nephews Jesse, Zach, and Noah; great-nieces Jaime, Candice, Kenzie and Blake; great-great-nephew Aydan; great-great-nieces Rhyann, Bella and Billie; and special friends Elizabeth Michalski and Winnifred Coley.
Elwood was educated as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. He worked at Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw, the in-patient Psychiatric Unit of the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, and the Regina Mental Health Clinic before his retirement. After his official retirement, Elwood continued to care for others and worked casual in long-term care in Regina at Elmview Extendicare, William Booth, and the Regina Lutheran Home. Elwood also worked casual for the former RQHR Public Health division as a nurse for their flu clinics before retiring fully in 2017.
It was Elwood’s request that his corneas be donated for transplant prior to his cremation, with no service to be held. Private interment to be held at a later date.
Donations may be made in Elwood’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, a charity of your choice, or in honour of his last wishes, please register yourself as an organ/tissue donor.
