Elvio Chelleri
01 May 1942 – 18 March 2022
Surrounded by his loved ones, Elvio passed away on March 18, 2022, at the age of 79. He will be profoundly missed by his wife of 17 years, Aida. Sharing in the loss is Hazel (Edgar) and their son Edzel, Jorge (Lady) and their infant daughter Zenzen. Always loved and never forgotten by his nephews Giampaolo (Linda) and Daniele. Elvio will be forever missed by his great nephew James, great niece Montana, and his many friends.
Born and raised in Isola d’Istria, Italy, Elvio, together with his sister and parents, left Isola in May 1955 and relocated to a refugee camp in Trieste. Elvio remained there until mid- April 1960, whereby he sailed for Canada, alongside his late sister Armida (Nerio) and nephew Giampaolo, aboard the ship, MS Vulcania to arrive in Halifax (Pier 21). Immediately following their arrival, they travelled to Bradford, Ontario where they worked for four months until finding their forever home in Toronto. Elvio spent many happy early years living with his sister Armida and her family, where countless hours were passed in joyful celebrations with friends and family. Elvio found his true love Aida and together they spent 17 years pursuing their common dreams, that included travel visiting friends and family.
He spent his first years employed as a carpenter but eventually found his happiness in driving a truck until retirement. Those who know Elvio know that he enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished artist, with a chosen few, lucky enough to receive various renderings of his beloved Isola.
