Obituary of Elsie Meehan
The death of Elsie Elizabeth Meehan occurred on December 29, 2022 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home at the age of 85. Born in Corn Hill on July 17, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Ruth (Coates) Payne and the wife of the late Hugh Meehan.
Elsie went to school in Smiths Creek and then went on to school in Sus – even taking lessons by mail. In 1952, because of polio, she was late starting school. Her father would take her out in the mornings and at the end of the day she would walk home to the Knightville Rd. In the wintertime she would board at her grandmother’s.
When she left school, she went to work for Paul’s Laundry and Dry Cleaners where she spent 16 years. She also worked for Sus Poultry, Zellers, Baxter’s Dairy (Sus Cheese and Butter) and G.E. Barbours. She was also a landlord for over 30 years.
Elsie loved to travel, she took two trips across Canada and travelled to Florida for a few winters. She especially loved her trip to Elvis’ mansion in Nashville and her trip to North Ireland and Holland with her husband Hugh.
She will live on in the hearts of her daughter-in-law, Linda Doyle; her brother, Donald Payne; her grandchildren: Carla Doyle and Wayne Folkins, Carlene Doyle and Noel Chown, Charlene Adair and her husband Shane and Lacey Teakles and her husband Shane; her great grandchildren: Michael, Wyatt, Hope, Austin, Gabriel and Chloe; as well as several extended family members.
Along with her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her son, Carl Doyle and by her sister, Marjorie Sterling.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, N.B. (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2022 from 11am – 2pm, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life At the family’s request masks are mandatory. A reception will follow in the Wallace Reception Area where all are invited to stay and share memories and fellowship with the family. The interment will take place in Trinity Cemetery, Sus Corner in the spring.
