Obituary
Passed away in the Lord’s timing at age 85. Loving wife of Simon for over 64 years. Beloved mother of Robert and Dominique, Paul and Judy, Nadia, Michael and Rosanne. Grandmother of Nicole, Jessie and James, Matthew and Emily Ann, Thomas and Brittany, Ashley and Zack, Sean, Alec, Emily, Zack and Ali and Great grandmother of Ben, Elise and Holly; Joey and Logan; Elaina and Gabriel; Zoe, Hunter and Emma; Georgia and Jemma. She loved each and everyone so much.
Elsie is survived by her siblings Beth, Nick and Hans and predeceased by her brother Henk.
Elsie lived a full and fulfilling life. Born April 9, 1937 in Onstwedde, The Netherlands to Rev. Gilbert and Johanna Vandooren. She survived a depression and WW2, and immigrated with her family to Canada in 1954. She always wanted to be a nurse, and graduated in 1955. She worked as a nurse until her retirement in 2001, and then worked as a volunteer for Hospice until Covid. Elsie was proud to be awarded the June Callwood Award for volunteer service. Elsie lived loving her family, her job and her Lord. Her advice was always to live life with purpose, and to serve and help others.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at EMMANUEL CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 8037 Hwy 7, Guelph, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022. A public Interment will precede the Service at 9:30 a.m. at Memory Gardens, 2723 Victoria St. N., Breslau.
In memory of Elsie, donations can be made to Hospice Wellington (795 Scottsdale Drive, Guelph, ON.), a cause very close to her heart, and where she spent many, many hours volunteering.
