ELLIS – Merna V., 98, of Kempt, Queens County, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia on Friday, June 17, 2022.
Born in Lake May, Annapolis County, Merna was a daughter of the late Ralph and Annie (MacBride) White.
During World War II, Merna worked as a secretary and at the Moir’s Chocolate Factory in Halifax where she met her husband, Paul. She was a “master” of handiwork. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, hooking rugs and embroidery. If it required a needle and thread, Merna knew how to make it. When she wasn’t doing handiwork, Merna enjoyed word find books and puzzles. She served as organist for many churches and was active at many community events. She was also a member of the Seventh Day Aventis Church.
Merna is survived by her daughter Betty Ann Ellis of Hamilton, ON. Her sons Ronald (Sandra) of Kempt and Charles (Beverley) of Hamilton, ON. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Merna was predeceased by her husband Paul, her son Reginald, her infant grand daughter and her grandson Jason.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral home, Liverpool. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 10 until 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. both in Kempt United Baptist Church. Pastor Royce Getson officiating. Burial will be in Northfield Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to North Queens Fire Association or to W.I.N.S. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
