Ellen (Nellie)
Rosalie Martin
September 27, 1957 –
October 9, 2022
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved
mother at the age of 65 years.
Ellen Nellie Martin passed peacefully away at St.
Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Sunday, October 9, 2022,
surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents, Andrew
and Bride (Slade) Martin of Dunville, baby sister Bridget, brothers,
Alex, Ned and John.
Left to mourn with a lifetime of loving memories to cherish,
her two daughters, Bridget (Jason) and Tanya (Shawn) five
grandchildren, Sebastian, Victor, Jayden, Dawson and Caleb; brothers,
Bill (Shirley), Andy (Nadine), Mike (Ruby), Moe (Wanda), Rick
(Gisela), Tony (Brenda); sisters, Anna, Loll (Mike), Marg (Doug),
Agnes (Eric), Eileen (Robert); sisters-in-law, Vera, Lois and Sharon;
and a large octagon of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her sweet
little guinea pig, Bobbi.
Nellie worked as a Lab and X-Ray Technician for over 25 years
and had patients request her by name. A true testament to the loving
care she provided to everyone she encountered.
She loved music and spent countless hours singing and
strumming her guitar. A passion she passed on to both of her
daughters. Road trips were filled with Loretta Lynn, Rita McNeil, Bon
Jovi and a little ABBA thrown in for good measure. In later years she
thoroughly enjoyed the Huron Carol and seeing Rita live in concert was
a memory for the books. Last Christmas she was overjoyed to facetime
with Tom Jackson and was ecstatic to get the chance to tell him he was
her favorite entertainer.
Nellie cared tirelessly for her mother and father and devoted
countless weekends chauffeuring her mother around Placentia, to
Church, and Sunday drives in the summer included stops at Reddi Chef
for wedge fries dressing and gravy.
As her ailments worsened and her mobility became increasingly
difficult during the last two years she turned to her
‘Partner in Crime’, Loll, to get her out of the
house and find a comfy stool in front of a slot machine playing the
Chili 7s.
Bridget and Tanya would like to express their deepest
gratitude to the staff and doctors of the Health Science Centre and
St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital who cared for her in the last
month of her life.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral
Home, Placentia. Friends will be received by the family starting at
12pm. A Celebration of Life service to take place from
Maher’s Funeral Home at 2pm on Saturday, October 15, 2022.
Interment to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery,
Dunville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal care
charity of your choice.
“Good night God Bless you. Love you, Bye”
