1965-2022
The passing of Ellen Jane Stanley of Blacks Harbour NB and
formerly of Grand Manan NB occurred at the Saint John Regional
Hospital, Saint John NB on August 22, 2022. Born in Saint John NB on
June 21, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Darwyn and Elizabeth
(Gilmore) Leighton. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend,
Ellen is survived by her two daughters: Amber Leighton (Brandon
Stevens) of Saint John NB and Aleta Leighton of Truro NS; two
grandchildren: Jayden and Teegan; her brothers: Andrew Leighton and
Jordy Leighton both of Grand Manan; her special and devoted friends:
Phyllis Justason of Beaver Harbour and Danny Justason of Seeley’s Cove
NB; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
After moving to Blacks Harbour Ellen worked in retail at both
the Freshmart and Hoopers. She loved to sing and socialize in the
community and enjoyed going to the Sunday Jam sessions at the Stella
Maris Hall. She had a passion for hockey and loved to cheer on the
Habs. In her free time Ellen enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone she
could. Her love and devotion to her family and friends will be sadly
missed.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the Immanuel
Family Church, Grand Manan NB with visiting on Wednesday from 6-8 pm.
The service will be held from the church on Thursday at 1:00 pm with
Rev. Ward McComiskey officiating followed by the interment in the
Maple Grove Cemetery. In Ellen’s memory, donations to a charity of the
donor’s would be appreciated by the family.
