Ellen Cecilia Careen 1932 2022

“Our mother has made her
journey Home”

Passed peacefully
away at home in the loving arms of her family on July 28th, 2022, at
the wonderful age of 90 years old.

Following a long,
love-filled life, Nellie is now at peace with her husband of 68 years,
Benedict Careen. Leaving with the fondest of memories, her children:
Diana (Buddy), Jane (Mike), Eugene (Cindy), Walter (Wanda), Gilbert
(Kimmy), Roy (Yvonne), Maureen (Calvin), Melvin (Marie), Barry (Dena),
Gary (Vivian), Sylvia (Jamie), her grandchildren, Jason (Lisa),
Charlene (Jason), Chantel (Darren), Melissa (Tony), Jenna (Steve),
Ryan (Ashley), Lauren, Angelea, Maggie, Noah, Christopher (Justina),
Heather (Eric), Samantha (Anthony), Brandon (April), Miranda (Brad),
Mitchell, Brooklyn, Rachel, Ben, Nikita (Carl), Scarlett,
and David, her great grandchildren, Nathan, Claire, Brody,
Cameron, Jaden, Jensen, Madden, Meyer, Owen, Finn, Atlas and
Cecilia.

She is
predeceased by her grandchildren: Hilary, Jake, and Gary, her sisters:
Theresa Lundrigan, Lucy Foley, Mary Roche, Molly Careen, and her
brother Philip Roche, and her parents John & Mary Roche, all
of whom she has now joined in God’s Holy
Kingdom.

Mom dearly loved
her family, her flowers and her faith. She cared for each of us more
than we will ever know. She worried about the boys fishing, the
grandchildren on the roads driving and she wanted her girls around all
the time.

Her garden was
her pride and joy. She loved her bright flowers and tended to them for
as long as she could. Even in the days when she could no longer go out
in the garden, she would ask about her flowers daily. Anyone who knew
Mom was a witness to her strong and dedicated faith. She was a devout
Catholic and sent prayers above each and every day. Her prayer book
and medals were never far from her hands as she truly believed that
faith, like family, is all you have in life.

She enjoyed her
chats, letters and visits from special friends and family members:
Howard Careen, Annette Careen, Rose Browne, Joyce Coffey, Ellen
Careen, Nellie Careen, Cyril Conway, Mike Careen, Ted & Elaine
Furey, Patsy & Gordan Yetman, Jenny Farrell, Jane McGrath and
many, many more. She will be remembered for the smile she had for
everyone who entered her home, her beautiful garden, her homemade
bread, her Sunday dinners, and her beautiful knitted socks that have
been gifted far and wide. Her hands and her heart worked very hard in
her time on this earth.

Our family has
been blessed with a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great
grandmother. She was married to the love of her life, Benedict Careen,
and together they raised a large family who continued to surround them
for all of their lives. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.
Special thanks to our angel, Michelle Conway, who is a Godsend to our
family. Michelle loved Mom; she sat by her side and held her hand in
her final moments. She became an important member of our family and we
are beyond grateful for her presence in our lives. As well, thanks to
Amanda Corcoran for her help with Mom over the months and to
all the family members who gave her special care. God bless you
all.

Funeral
arrangements are entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home,
Placentia. Our mother will begin her journey home to Point Lance on
Saturday, July 30; leaving Placentia at 2:00pm, with visitation taking
place from 3:30 to 9:00pm and all-day Sunday. The memorial service
will be held on Sunday at 7:00pm and Funeral Mass will take place on
Monday at 2:00pm at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Point
Lance.
“Remember Me with Smiles and Laughter”
by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Now that I am gone,
remember me with smiles and laughter,
and if you need to cry,
cry with your brother or sister
who walks in grief beside you.
And when you need me,
put your arm around anyone
and give them what you need to give to me.
There are so many who need so much.
I want to leave you something –
something much better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I’ve known
or helped in some special way.
Let me live in your heart as well as in your mind.
You can love me most
by letting your love reach out to our loved ones,
by embracing them and living in their love.
Love does not die, people do.
So when all that’s left of me is love,
give me away as best you can.
Mom, we will love you “’til the end of time.”
