It is with great sadness that the family of Ellen Barter announce her passing on May 29th, 2022.
She was predeceased by: husband Roderick; son Edward; parents William and Rita (Besaw) Collier; brothers: Joe, Willie and Ned; sisters: Marion and Gladys; brother-in-laws Patrick Ridgley and James White; and sister-in- Law Martina Collier.
Ellen is survived by: her children: Barbara (Gerald), Sharon (Danny), and Bernard (Melissa); grandchildren: Mandi (Cherise), Nadine (Vincent), Skye, Nathan, and Sarah; and great grandchild Hannah; brothers: Gerard (Geraldine), Kevin (Mary), and Bernard (Theresa); sisters: Barbara and Marie (Leo); as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Ellen was a stay at home mom until her children were older. Then she worked out of the house as a fisherwoman for 19 years. She loved to knit and play cards. She enjoyed listening to music on the record player especially Charlie Pride and Smiley Bates. On Sunday she tuned in to ‘This one’s for you’. She had a good sense of humour which everyone loved. Up until her passing she still had her sense of humour.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care given to Ellen by Dr. Dwyer and staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital who had shown such care and compassion to Ellen and her family during this difficult time. Also, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Barbara and Tony Cox for their hospitality, care and compassion shown to Ellen during her stay in St. John’s for surgery.
Following her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. A private service will be held at a later date.
