Ella Bernice Patriquin Blair 1930 2022

It is with
great sadness that the family announces the passing of their loving
mother/grandmother, Ella Bernice Patriquin
(Blair) on February 20, 2022 at East Cumberland Lodge
(Pugwash). She was born at home in Wallace Station to Clarence and
Bessie (Amos) Blair.
In 1949 she
married her husband of 56 years, the love of her life Roy Patriquin.
Ella attended Normal College and graduated as a school teacher in the
early 1950’s. She was a natural educator and taught at
Wallace Station, Westchester, Folly Lake and Wentworth. Her students
still speak of her with great fondness. Ella retired from teaching
when her and Roy opened the Esso service station/tourist
cabins/take-out in West Wentworth, where she became famous for her
doughnuts!
Ella was a
faithful member of the United Church and always enjoyed Sunday
services. She was an excellent quilter and spent many hours quilting
for the UCW. Every member of her family has a quilt, some have two.
She enjoyed listening to hymns and of course Hank Snow as they always
attended his annual festival.
Ella lovingly
spoke of her “Gramma Amos”; family was everything to her.
She literally kept the home fires burning, mostly baking
bread in her wood oven. She delighted in many riveting card games with
grand-kids and her door was always open with hot tea and ginger snap
cookies. She missed her calling as a historian as she
documented everything and there are scrap books to prove
it!
Ella will be
deeply missed by her surviving children, Narda Madore, Marie (Ross
Henderson), Connie (Doug Barley), Barry, and Karen Dallaire (Louis);
her twelve grandchildren; many great grandchildren and one great great
grandson, along with brother, Walter and sister in law,
Shirley.
She was
predeceased by her husband Roy, brothers Kenny and Willard, sisters
Hilda and Florence, her son in law Bobby and grandson
Joey.
Love you
Mom, rest in
peace.
