Obituary of Elizabeth Gillies
Elizabeth passed away peacefully at Central Place in Owen Sound, on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Born on September 24, 1923, Elizabeth Kemp Gillies (née MacDonald) of Owen Sound and formerly of Bognor, was in her 99th year.
Dearly loved wife of the late William Gillies (1989). Loving mother of John Gillies (Lee) of Bognor, Mary Gillies of Toronto and the late David Gillies (2017) (Mary Gillies of Owen Sound). Proud grandmother of Brandon, Brock (Carrie), Brittany (Dave), Amanda (Brett) and great-grandmother of Charlize, Acelyn and Avery. Elizabeth will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by her parents Findlay and Jean MacDonald, her brother Neil MacDonald (Dorothy), her sister Mary Porteous (Jim), sisters-in-law Ethel Ross (John) and Lyla Doherty (Harry).
Special thanks to the staff at Central Place for the wonderful care they have given Elizabeth over the years.
A Visitation for Elizabeth Gillies will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519) 376-7492 on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held with Pastor Michael Henkel officiating. Spring interment in McLean’s Cemetery, Bognor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the McLean’s Cemetery (cheques payable to the Municipality of Meaford) or Grey Roots Museum and Archives would be appreciated by the family. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting Elizabeth’s online memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
