Obituary of Elizabeth “Betty” DurnFord, Port Caledonia
It is with a heavy heart we announce that Elizabeth (Betty) Durnford, born May 23rd, 1943, passed peacefully at her home on the morning of February 18th, 2022.
Betty met her future husband Jabez Durnford in Glace Bay, and ventured to Ontario to further their life. Ontario is where they were married and started their life and family. She then assisted many of her sisters with the same venture of moving to Ontario to further their lives.
Betty worked for years doing factory work as well as being a mother, sister, nan figure to many family, friends and children in her life.
Later in life Betty and her husband Jabez Durnford returned to Cape Breton and resided in Port Caledonia. Betty maintained being that same figure during her life here.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Frank Acker and Jessie Hiscock-Acker. She grew up in a busy household with many siblings.
Betty was dearly loved by family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Betty was predeceased by her father, Frank, mother, Jessie, brothers, Ron Hiscock, Herman Acker, sister, Sylvia Jessome (Leo), brother in-law, Charlie Durnford, grandson, Drake Farrell.
She is survived by her husband, Jabez Durnford, daughters, Lisa & Carolyn Durnford, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, Frances MacNeil (Ron), Judy Acker, Viola Bonett, Jenny Brake (Gerald), brother, Gene Acker (Alana), as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be a private family only service held in the funeral home chapel, with Rev Dorothy Miller officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Feed Nova Scotia.
