Elizabeth Libby Abbott February 28th 2022

It is with such sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Abbott (nee Tizzard), after a valiant, decade long fight with Alzheimer’s.
Libby was predeceased by her loving husband, Boyd, parents Charlie and Mary Tizzard and parents in law, Dot and Jose Abbott.
Leaving behind with an abundance of love and memories, her children Michael (Angie), Michelle Groves, Melanie Russell (Dave) and Melissa Noseworthy (Richard), as well as grandchildren, Griffin Abbott, Maria and Isaac Groves and Charlie and Jillian Russell. She also leaves to mourn her brothers Robert (Rosemary), Mike (Maud), Charlie (Sandy) and sisters Sheila Bellows, Frances, and Mary Tizzard Dean, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Libby grew up on Quidi Vidi Rd in St. John’s with her six brothers and sisters in a house where visitors were always welcomed and fun and music was plenty. She spent many summers at their cabin on Blackmarsh road where they would swim, play with many friends and have field days with games and much laughter.
Libby graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 as a Registered Nurse. After a brief stint working at the General Hospital, she moved to Bonavista, and there she stayed for the whole of her life. She began her career in the old cottage hospital where she had so many wonderful memories of colleagues who she not only worked with but laughed with constantly. She started her time at Golden Heights Manor in 1978 and she was by all accounts, a well respected and much adored coworker. She had a reassuring and gentle manner that helped her excel as a Nurse, and a disposition that made her a pleasure to work alongside. As well as her career, she was also a long time volunteer with the Lioness Club in Bonavista.
Libby met her handsome beloved, Boyd, while working at the cottage hospital and she knew he was her meant to be. Their devotion and adoration of each other remained steadfast throughout their marriage. She went on to marry him and raise four children whom she put first in every way, always. Her intense love of family she passed on to them as well as her understanding nature and, of course, her humour. Though this disease robbed her of the ability to truly make many lasting memories with her grandchildren, they know her love and it will live on in them, her brothers and sisters and most of all her beloved four M’s.
Mom, of all the goodbyes we have had to endure along the way, the last was the hardest.
