Garvin, Elizabeth “Betty” (February 26, 1927 – July 31, 2022) – Heaven has received another angel. Betty passed away at Hospice Prince Edward, in Picton, on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 11:11 am, at the age of 95, surrounded with the love of her daughters, Shirley and Ellen.
Betty was a proud “blue noser”, born and raised in Westville, Nova Scotia to John and Annie Lloyd. Together with her husband John, they raised 6 children. She was a loving mother to Neil, Arlene, Ellen (Paul) Hunter, David, Patricia, and Shirley. Cherished grandmother of Kelly Anne (Jonathan) Snaith, Amber (Chris) Jesse, Sean Garvin, Jeff (Erin) Garvin, Chris (Emily) and Nick (Meghan) Hunter and Sarah and Matthew Forrest. Great grandmother of Cooper, Wyatt & Lincoln, Seth, Alex, Gabrielle, Johnathan and Teo and “soon to be” baby Hunter.
Betty was welcomed with open arms by those who predeceased her-parents John and Annie Lloyd, husband John, children Arlene and David, siblings Harold (Muriel), Johnny (Lucy), Clarence (Margie), Mary (Lawrence), Tommy (Sherry) and life long friends John and Tess Palmer. As well as her children she is survived by many nieces and nephews, and the Palmer families, who all had much love for her.
When John joined the Canadian Air Force the family enjoyed postings to Moncton, N. B., Rockcliffe Air Base in Ottawa and Trenton, Ontario. The skills Betty learned while employed at Charles Ogilvy’s in Ottawa and Darling’s Stationary in Trenton, gave her the desire and the confidence to open her own business. The Card Corner in Trenton, was her pride and joy. This was where she honed her talents as a bridal consultant and gift wrapper extraordinaire. It was not only a retail business, but also a friendly place to sit and chat and have a cup of tea. Her kindness and generosity were extended to all who came through her door.
Betty’s faith, and the Trenton (Grace) United Church community, were an integral part of her life. Her volunteer roles included being a UCW member, an elder, Sunday school teacher, long time link in the prayer chain, and friendly visitor.
She will be greatly missed by her wonderful neighbours on Tiffany Place and the many friends she made in her final residence. Her ability to see humour in life was one of her most endearing qualities. Her sense of humour was appreciated by everyone she met. Where ever she was, there was laughter.
The celebration of Betty’s life will be at Trenton United Church on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at 12:00p.m. Reception to follow at the Rushnell Funeral Home in Trenton. If desired, donations in her memory to Trenton United Church, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation or Hospice Prince Edward, in Picton.
