Obituary of Eleanor Ruth Humphrey
Eleanor Ruth Humphrey (nee Cairns)
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Mattawa Hospital at the age of 83.
Loving mother to Shelley Belanger (Brent) of Mattawa, Lesley Bergen (Patrick) of Calgary, proud and loving grandmother to, Amanda, Andrew, Spencer, Maxwell, Chelsea, and Kristen. Great-grandmother to Kylie, Mason, and Maddie.
Survived by her sister Marilyn Cairns-Lincoln.
Predeceased by her parents, Archie and Anna Cairns, her brother William and sister-in-law Margaret Cairns, sister Audrey Cairns and sister Lois Cairns.
Eleanor was an amazing advocate for senior housing in Mattawa, she was president of the Golden Age and a board member on the Mattawa Seniors Affordable Housing Committee, among other assorted community committees. She was most proud of her volunteer work as she loved her adopted community.
Eleanor was passionate about Christmas time, she loved the holidays, in her spare time she would write children’s books about Santa’s elves and their adventures in the North Pole.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mattawa Hospital as well as daily PSWs from Paramed, for the compassion and care that they have showed our mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mattawa Hospital.
