Obituary of Eleanor Mae Pridham
“The sun is setting on my life, and I am ready for sleep.”
Our Mother, Eleanor Mae Pridham, lived a very full life and died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit with family at her side. She was born in St. Stephen, NB, on October 18, 1922, the daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. E.S. Hammond.
As a pastor’s daughter, she moved many times, and as a teenager was living in PEI when she met Lorne, the love of her life, whom she married a few years later.
After completing high school in Maine, Eleanor settled in Saint John and worked at the Bank of Montreal, then attended Eastern Nazarene College in Wollaston, Massachusetts.
Mum and Dad married in 1946 and had a family of four children. After her busy life raising us, volunteering at church, and helping others, Mum also worked alongside Dad at Pridham’s Studio of Photography. She loved accounting and helping customers, many of whom were friends from over the years.
Eleanor was a very special lady who loved life. She was an avid knitter and besides knitting for her family, there were always dozens of pairs of mittens and socks to put on the Christmas tree at church, and bags of preemie beanies for the Neonatal Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Mum will always be remembered as she lived, a person of dignity, grace, fun and laughter. She had a wonderful way of trusting and knowing that she was loved by God.
She was predeceased by our Dad in 2004 and by her devoted son, Brent (Cathy) in 2010. She is survived by her children, Sandra MacFadyen (Steve-deceased), Garey Pridham (Sue Sheehy) and Mark Pridham (Tara Lingley); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Fernhill Cemetery. For those wishing to attend the service, please meet at Brenan’s by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
Special thank you to Dr. Poirier, Dr. Stevenson, Dr. C. O’Brien and the caring staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
