Obituary
ELEANOR HELEN CIESZYNSKI
(nee KILIMNIK)
March 10, 1934 – February 4, 2022
It is with profound sadness that the family of Eleanor announce her passing at Grace Hospital. Eleanor was the love of her husband Arthur’s life for over 69 years and he is missing her dearly. No greater love story has ever been written. The Best Mom ever (she even won a couple of awards to prove what we already knew) to her four sons, Arthur (Marie), Alan, Doug (Barb) and Brian (Liz). A most loving Grandmother to James (Audrey), Erin (Chris), Michael (Carly), Kristy, Kyle (Whitney), Courtney (David), Kelley (Mark). With more than enough love to go around for the most adorable 10 great grandchildren (her words) Liam, Declan, Lyla, Nolan, Lexi, Ella, Quinn, Halle, Emmett and Logan. Also missing her is her loving sister and best friend Alice, sisters-in-law Victoria, Genevieve and Corinne and numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. Mom was born in Sandy Lake Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg with her parents and sister at a young age. Named Eleanor by her school teacher because they could not pronounce her Ukrainian name, Mom excelled in school and no sooner than she finished high school she met the man of her dreams. When Dad first laid eyes on Mom she was pushing a baby carriage and he was going to head for the hills, but wait, she was just helping a girlfriend and that is how it all started! Dad says she was the most beautiful girl he ever saw, and soon enough they were married and four baby carriages were to follow. Mom and Dad were the happiest when they were in each other’s company. Setting the bar so high, there were always comments about what a loving couple they were and how much they cared for each other. While Dad worked to provide for his family, Mom was right by his side making sure her five boys were always looked after in every way. She sat through many a football and hockey game, often times she was the only parent in the stands on a cold November day cheering on her sons teams, but also providing pails of hot chocolate for both teams at half time! Mother of the year wasn’t a reward she strived for, but the local football league in Selkirk recognized her caring. Mom made a circle of lifelong friends in the neighbourhood and even as time separated them she still kept in touch with Olga, Gladys, Pat and Marie, just to name a few. Mom and Dad’s love of travel took them to Hawaii and all across Canada and into the USA to visit family. In their 30+ years of retirement they took many a car ride and bus trip to casinos far and wide. The Happy Gang became a second family. Mom and Dad enjoyed being together at home most of all. Family was always close by and visitors were welcomed with open arms. Once again leaving with the knowledge that they had been in the company of a wonderful love story. Mom was an active member of Notre Dame Church. She served on the Parish Council for many years and was an active lifelong member of the CWL, Mom’s faith was so very important to her. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Ann Kilimnik (nee Desiatnyk) and her in-laws Thomas and Victoria Cieszynski, brothers in-law Joe, Joe, George, Walter, Alf, and Henry, sisters-in-law Julia, Eleanor and Helen. Quite a welcoming committee at the gates no doubt! We would like to thank the caring professional staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Selkirk Paramedic Service, Grace Hospital and Beausejour Hospital for taking such great care of Mom in these last few trying months. Due to the current Covid restrictions a private in person funeral service will be by invitation. The service will be live streamed via the link that will be posted here, for you to share in this true celebration of life and love. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, MS Society of Canada or any charitable organization of your choice.
