BECKETT, Eleanor Janet passed away peacefully at Gilmore Lodge in Fort Erie on November 16, 2022 at the age of 93. Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert Gordon Beckett, “Bob”, (2013), Eleanor is survived by her children Doug Beckett (Jan), Andrea Borsy (Andy), and Nancy Ball. Loving Grandmother to Emily Bridge (Deon), James Beckett (Keyla), Carolyn Zadro (Eric), Rebecca Wagner (Justin), Sarah Feduck (Spencer), Scott Hudson (Jennifer), and Steven Hudson (Lailanie Gaoayen). Great Grandmother to Dexter Bridge, Jacob and Maia Lopez-Beckett, Arthur, Maggie, Michael, Clare and Aurelia Zadro, Gavin and Joel Wagner, and Benjamin, Brooklyn and Owen Hudson. Eleanor was born in Simcoe to Grace and James Ryckman. As a young woman, she worked on the switchboard for Bell Telephone in Simcoe, where she first met Bob. They married in 1950 and moved to Port Colborne in 1952 for Bob to pursue a career in pharmacy. There, they raised their family, were active members of the community and the Central United Church congregation, and enjoyed a large circle of close friends. After their children were raised, Eleanor’s interests expanded beyond the household arts of baking and preserving to include handicrafts, knitting and quilting. Eleanor was a long time member of Central United Church’s UCW, active in contributing to the Christmas Bazaar efforts. She was a charter member of the Port Colborne Quilt and Stitchery Guild, sewing many quilts that were donated to children with cancer at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and crocheting many afghans for Juravinski cancer patients. Her family members also received many beautifully crafted items. Eleanor entered long term care during the first year of the pandemic and the family would like to thank the staff of Gilmore Lodge for treating Eleanor with great kindness, care and respect during an especially difficult time. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place and a private interment of ashes next to the love of her life will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online memories and condolences may be shared at www.davidsonfuneralhomes.com.
