Eldon Richard Eddy Hancock 19292022

Eldon Richard “Eddy” Hancock
1929-2022
Eldon “Eddy”
Hancock, of New Minas, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022, in the
Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, at the age of 93. He was
born in White Rock on January 18, 1929 and was the youngest son of
John Wesley and Mildred (Leary) Hancock. Dad lived most of his life in
White Rock, building a home and raising his family. He enjoyed taking
part in community activities and helping out whenever he could. As a
young boy, he enjoyed playing hockey on a homemade rink and competing
in games with the Black River boys. Later, he played on the
men’s team with players from surrounding communities. Dad
played on the White Rock Men’s Softball team as a player and
coach for some time. He had been employed with the Manning Egg
Hatchery in Port Williams and later made his career as a lineman with
Nova Scotia Light and Power Co. (later called Nova Scotia Power),
retiring as a lineman foreman. He was President for the Local IBEW
Union and was a Director for the Valley Credit Union in New Minas. Dad
was also a longtime member of the White Rock Baptist Church and
assisted with the building of the White Rock Community Centre. He was
the last surviving member of “The Senior Entertainers” band,
who entertained many times at Evergreen Home for Special Care. He
loved playing his guitar and singing whenever and wherever he could
and liked attending Bluegrass sessions and musical festivals. Camping
was another one of his pleasures, as well as hunting and fishing. He
enjoyed life to the fullest, and of course his big red Dodge truck.
Dad is survived by his partner and beloved companion, Faye Keith; his
six children, Sheila (Ronnie) Thompson, Donna (David) Munro, Garnet
(Sharon), Budd (Debbie), Steven and Dana (Leonard) Harris; 12
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Velma (Dr George)
Ibsen; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters,
Anna, Elva, Nellie and Marie; brothers, Albert, Earl, Harold, Robie
and son-in-law, Nathan Levy. Cremation has taken place and there will
be no visitation, by request. A funeral service and gathering will be
held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022, in the White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial
will take place in the White Rock Cemetery. Donations in memory may be
made to White Rock Baptist Church, the White Rock Community Centre or
to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted
to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
