Obituary of Eileen Margaret Brennand
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Eileen Brennand, on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the Regina General Hospital. Born in Louth, UK, in 1929, she lived through many struggles as a young lady. Eileen survived WWll, many air raids, and being evacuated at a very young age. Even though she endured so much hardship, she lived life as the most positive, generous, kind and loving woman. Eileen met the love of her life, James in 1946, when he was posted in the RAF in Caistor, Lancs, and they were married on Valentine’s day 1950. They lived in Liverpool before bravely immigrating to Canada in 1953, eventually settling in Regina in 1959. Eileen was a successful real estate agent in the 70s and later the office manager at the Ipsco Credit Union (Evraz).
Eileen and Jim loved to travel and visited many parts of the world over the years. When they were not traveling, they were spending time at their summer homes at Pelican Point and later Island View. Eileen left an impression on everyone she met. She was charming with a sweet British accent and her presence drew you in. A fiercely independent woman, she kept a two-story home and drove her car until the very end. We were always in awe of her strength and determination. Eileen had a passion for animals and has always had a pet or two at her side. She was very influential in the early days of the Regina Humane Society and in later years Eileen found many more charitable animal rescue organisations that she supported. We will always fondly remember helping her feed the birds and squirrels and having a love for all of God’s creatures.
She was the best Nanna and her grandchildren have many stories of her generosity. Always ensuring they had coffee money and were taken care of. They always felt secure knowing Nanna had their back no matter what. Her love for her family was enormous. She made sure we all had warm enough clothes on (she was always cold), got to our destinations safely and that we had plenty of groceries in our fridges. A caregiver through and through, always putting the needs of others in front of her own.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband James of 69 years. She is survived by her daughter Lynne (Carmen) Browne of Strathmore, AB; son Shaun (Lorie) of Regina, SK; grandchildren Jamie, Elanna and Liam; great-grandchildren Brooklynn, Grace and Luke; as well as one sister Jill, from Grimsby, England. By Eileen’s request, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Regina Humane Society or the Regina Cat Rescue.
