Obituary
Eileen was one of eight children born into an energetic family that lived on a farm in Scott, Saskatchewan. Her parents died very early and at the age of 16, her older siblings decided to move the family to Calgary.
Eileen took to city life enjoying a career working in a hospital and then a dental clinic. In the evenings she went out with her girlfriends to dance the night away! It was her sense of humour; always kidding about and enjoying a good joke; and her light-heartedness and kindness that people recall.
She married James McDermott (recently deceased Sept 28, 2021) and enjoyed a close family life with three surviving children; Karen, Brant (Michelle), and Donna; and two grandchildren Vienna and Layne. It was later in life when Eileen finally became a Grandmother – at age 85!
She will be remembered for her kindness, love of music and playing the keyboard, her love of great food, oil painting, and her youthful frame of mind having friends of many ages! She actively enjoyed sharing beautiful photos, jokes, and stories through email with her many relatives and friends through the years, and recently learned FaceTime so she could stay in touch with loved ones who couldn’t move about.
Just as we quoted Rumi with dad, this quote applies to mom’s beliefs as well. Rumi says: ‘Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.’ Her beautiful smile, caring ways and inspiring nature will be dearly missed by all those who know her!
