Obituary
Edythe Marion Arnott died peacefully on August 17th, 2022 at Douglas Campbell Lodge, Portage la Prairie, with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Allan Victor Arnott in 2011. She will be fondly remembered by her family: Valerie (Richard) Stove, Diane (Barry) Sadler, Vicki (Mark) Truman, Tom (Yvonne) Arnott, and her grandchildren, Kristen and Lisa (great grandchildren Desmond and Kaya).
Edythe was born in the Shadeland District in 1923, the eldest of four children born to Thomas Herbert Rex and Margaret Elizabeth Rex. She was predeceased by her siblings, Isobel, Alf, and Bert and is survived by her sister-in-law, Elaine Rex.
Edythe obtained her early education at Pearce School and graduated from Morden High School. She trained at Success Business College and worked as a stenographer in the Corps of Army Engineers at Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg. Edythe and Allan were married in 1945. They returned to Darlingford where they raised their growing family and worked as partners operating a large-scale family farm.
Edythe emphasized the importance of education and demonstrated this by active participation in the community. She was involved in church committees, Sunday school, PTA, Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba, and encouraged her children to pursue higher education.
Edythe had many interests. Her sons-in-law, extended family, and friends recall gatherings with large home cooked meals and baking – dinner rolls, cinnamon buns, butter tarts, and pies among the favourites. She liked gardening, was an avid reader, loved to solve the daily crossword, enjoyed knitting, kept abreast of current affairs, and was a life-long learner. Although she was a home body, loving to spend time with her family, Edythe and Allan travelled extensively in Canada, to Australia, Africa, China, Great Britain, and the USA. In retirement, they spent many enjoyable winters in Apache Junction, Arizona with new found friends. Her wry sense of humour and kind, caring personality will be missed by all who knew her.
The family wish to thank Douglas Campbell Lodge staff for their kindness, care, and support for our much-loved Mom and our family over many years!
