Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Edwina Jessie Crane (nee Collier) announce her passing at the WMRH Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook, NL on October 10th, 2022 at the age of 82 years. She leaves to mourn with loving memories, her daughters: Colleen (Brent) Humphries, and Tracy (Paul Pomeroy) of Corner Brook; son, Steven (Yelena) of Greenville, SC; her beloved grandchildren: Ellie (Colton), and Matthew; sister-in-law: Lillian; brother-in-law: Bill; several nieces, a nephew, and her beloved Burgeo family; as well as loved ones from her husband Llewellyn’s family in Harbour Grace. Edwina is predeceased by her parents, Arch and Susie Collier of Burgeo; husband, Llewellyn Crane; sister, Kay Grant; brother, Arch Collier; and nephew, Brent.
Edwina was born in Burgeo, NL on November 18th, 1939. She was educated at St. Bride’s College (Littledale), where she studied bookkeeping. She went on to work for Burgeo Fish Industries Ltd. as the bookkeeper until she married Llewellyn Crane, and they moved to Port-aux-Basques, and later to Corner Brook. She continued to work and had a varied and interesting life meeting new people, particularly while working with the Status of Women Council, and the Transition House. She thoroughly enjoyed her time working for Shellbird Cable, Colourful Corners, Sora Handicrafts, and her time as a sales representative for Tupperware, Sarah Coventry, and AVON. During her work, volunteering, and personal pursuits, she made many lifelong friends and held dear her many childhood friends. She connected with many of them through Facebook, which brought her a great deal of pleasure. During the time she and Lew were involved with the local yacht club, she made many treasured memories with the people there. Edwina also loved gardening, travelling around Newfoundland, and her cottage in Harbour Grace.
Edwina and Lew raised three children. Edwina instilled in them the value of a good education and work ethic, as well as a sense of compassion for others. She was devoted to her children who remember her fondly for her beauty, grace, sense of humour, and love.
At Edwina’s request, cremation has taken place. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 16th, 2022 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 7-9 PM, and on Monday, October 17th, 2022 at 1 PM from where the funeral service will take place in the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM, with Rev. Cynthia Haines-Turner officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Flowers are graciously accepted, or a donation can be made in Edwina’s memory to Operation Smile (operationsmile.org). Cash donations will be used toward the purchase of hearing devices to be donated to the WMRH Palliative Care Unit.
Edwina’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of TLC Nursing and Home Care services; Mountain View Estates; Dr. P. Callahan; the doctors and nurses of the renal dialysis unit, 3A/B, and the palliative care unit; as well as the staff of Western Health who have been directly involved in her care. The support of the Newfoundland Hearing Health Centre has been greatly appreciated for improving her quality of life these past few weeks.
