Obituary of Edward Baker
Edward Baker Sr., a Marine and longtime resident of Horseheads, NY, passed away on March 8, 2022 surrounded by family. Ed, as he was known to many, was born August 10, 1939 to Grant and Johanna Baker. He proudly served in the USMC 2nd Marine Division.
After serving, Ed married Patricia (Pat) Hancock on November 23, 1963. Ed was an active member and Business Agent for Carpenters Union Local 352 in Elmira, NY. After retiring, Ed and Pat found the inviting community of Tropic Isles in Palmetto, Florida to call their part-time home. They enjoyed new friends, dances, hosting cocktails on their patio, and helping to coordinate the annual Trash and Treasures fundraiser for 15 years together. In Sullivanville, Ed kept busy riding the tractor, splitting wood, working on projects in the garage, and running around town with long time friend Rich Moore. Ed was a regular blood donor to the Red Cross and financial donor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Grant and Johanna Baker, brothers, Richard, Raymond, and James Baker, and sisters Mary Rodabaugh and Dorothy Judd. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Baker, daughter Brenda Moore, son Edward Baker Jr. (Robin), granddaughter Danyelle O’Brien (James), great grandson James O’Brien II, nieces, nephews and so many carpenters, Marines, and friends who cared for him. His family has organized a memorial service to celebrate Ed’s life, which will be held at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Saturday April 23, 2022. Calling hours will be from 12 Noon to 2PM. Mr. Baker’s Funeral Service will follow at the conclusion of calling hours at 2PM. Interment in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. In Lieu of flowers, please remember Ed through memorial donations sent to the American Red Cross or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his name.
