EDWARD LEWIS TAYLOR
12 JUNE 1937 – 26 NOVEMBER 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Lewis Taylor (“Ned”) on November 26th, 2022, in Ottawa. He was predeceased by his wife Janet, was dear father to Shannon and Scott, beloved grandfather to Tristan, dear father-in-law to Reg, much-loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Ned (or “Ed” as he was sometimes known) was born in New Brunswick in 1937 and spent his childhood in Shediac with dear siblings Austin, Beulah, and Patty. He always spoke fondly of New Brunswick which held a special place in his heart.
Ned had a long career in air traffic control, trained at an early age, working in Moncton, Gander, Toronto, Cornwall and Ottawa. Ned worked as an air traffic controller, an instructor, and an investigator for organizations such as Transport Canada and NAV CANADA. He had a keen, analytical mind, a love for language, and a wealth of knowledge.
He loved the simple things in life: fresh air, gardening, good food and in his younger days, sports cars. He loved to take his Austin-Healey out for a spin much to the enjoyment of family and friends who would often join. Ned was also an avid lover of jazz music, especially the saxophone, which he learned to play.
Ned was a humble, gentle, compassionate, and astute man who was always ready to volunteer his time to help others. He was someone you could count on. His dry sense of humour was well-known, and he loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He will truly be missed.
Friends and family may visit at Parkdale United Church, 429 Parkdale Avenue, Ottawa, on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 10am until tiome of service at 11am. A reception will follow the service.
In Edward’s memory charitable donations may be made to Parkdale United Church in Ottawa, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
