COHEN, Edward Lawrence
On Friday January 21, 2022, Lawrence passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. A man of remarkable strength, courage, and character who, in the last few years, faced multiple medical challenges that included heroically surviving pancreatic cancer.
Dearly loved husband, partner, and best friend of the late Florrie Cohen, to whom he was married to for over 50 years.
Proud and caring father and father-in-law of Mitchell and Ariane Cohen, Eileen and Holden Ostrin, Marcy and Edward Ortenberg, Jack and Ruth Cohen.
Cherished Zaidie to the lights of his life: Jonathan (Holly), Alyssa, Craig (Ruby), Scott, Jill (Chris), Allie, and Florrie. Nothing brought more joy to his enormous heart than each of his grandchildren. He actively followed their lives and always kvelled with nachas about each of their achievements.
Son of the late Nathan and the late Mildred. Dear and adored brother of Cora Cohen and Janis Cohen and brother-in-law of Isaac and Pearl Robin, Marilyn and Nadie Gozansky.
Uncle and cousin to a large family across North America who will sadly miss him.
Special thanks to Dr. Doris Steg and Dr. Estelle Dang and to his wonderful caregivers: Shirley, Brenda, Baba, and Gladwin, as well as the amazing support of BethCare. He was truly blessed to have all their devotion.
Lawrence was a true mensch, a wise and gentle man with a good soul. He may not have been loud and boisterous but, virtually everyone he knew, close to him or not, has a funny story about him or a fond memory of something he did quietly and without fanfare that impacted their lives. He was caring and devoted to a fault to his family, loved ones, and friends. As well, his knowledge and passion for cars was legendary, and he was deeply admired and respected for his lifelong real estate acumen and skills.
Due to Covid protocols, the funeral service is by invitation only and will be live streamed privately. Shiva is also strictly private.
