“The Entertainer” would be the best way to describe Ed. He entertained his family, friends and health care workers with a wide range of stories and jokes. He was our foot massager, cook and house keeper. You could know Ed a lifetime or only a chance encounter but the impact he left on your heart was immense due to his charm and charisma.
Family meant everything to Ed. He ensured we all had everything we needed. He guided us through our challenges and celebrated our accomplishments. He was so very proud of all the children and loved us fiercely.
The BIS society was “the man’s club” and most of Ted’s family spent time there. He thoroughly enjoyed his darts and having a drink or two. The dinner and dances were a place of joy for Ed. He lived for the dance floor and the two step. All the woman looked forward to a spin on the dance floor with him.
St Pat’s Lanes was home to Ed treasured bowling memories with his father and brother. At Plaza bowl he ran the BIS bowling league and was pronounced “The Most Spirited Player” in the Kilbride League many years later. He encouraged us all to take it up 5 pin bowling as a hobby.
Sports was Ed’s passion. He tried and played everything. He played hockey, golf, softball etc. He put his heart and soul into everything he did and in turn brought out the best in everyone around him. He was a competitor at heart. Whether it was bowling, darts or cards, if you won against Ed, you won fair and square. He never “let” you win no matter your age.
His passion for family and sports extended into his work life. He was proud of his career and loved that he followed his Father’s footsteps by working alongside his dad and brother at the CN Railway and NL Dockyard. His co-workers became close friends. As a person who wanted to help others he was involved in the Union and was an Integral part of the Emergency Response team.
Dad worked all his life to retire. Yet after a summer of building all the neighbours’ fences and decks he was tired of being “a house wife” and needed a job. Off to the taxi life it was. Valley cabs brought Dad so much joy. It combined his love of socializing, helping others and telling jokes. He could tell the same joke many times as he had a new captive audience every run. He felt most privileged in assisting the seniors and children.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hogan, staff at 4NB, HSC Emergency department and the staff at Pleasant View Towers.
