Obituary
Bennett, Edward (Ed) Austin – age 84, Passed peacefully away at Glenbrook Lodge, July 3 rd ,
2022, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Jessie, brothers
Bernard, Brian and Gerry, brother-in-law Gerard and sister-in-law Carol. Ed leaves his wife of 55
years, Millie (nee Murphy), and sons Michael (Rhonda) and Tony (Renée) as well his beloved
grandchildren Grace, Ryan & Sam. Ed also leaves his brothers Peter (Sadie), Joe (Annette) of
St. John’s, sister Janet of Halifax, sisters-in-law Evelyn of Halifax, Eleanor of St. John’s, and
Patty Godden of The Goulds, NL. Ed was loved by many nieces, nephews, family and friends
especially Leo and Lorraine McGrath.
Ed was a man of great attention to detail whether at work, home or his community involvement
with the Goulds Lions Club. Ed was a long-time member and served in all positions including
being president. Ed received many awards during his service with the Goulds Lions Club,
including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from Lions International which is the highest award
that is presented to members for Humanitarian Services.
Ed’s work took him to many places from Sondrestrom, Greenland to Churchill Falls, Labrador to
Fort McMurray, Alberta and many places throughout Newfoundland. He loved life and enjoyed
sharing many discussions over a glass of Port.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. No flowers by
request. Donations in Ed’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
