Edith May Grills was born in 1930 in Toronto, Ont. She was lucky, for Eadie was raised by her father, Milton, who loved her greatly. Two against the world in extreme poverty, their bond was powerful. Somehow a small illiterate man raised a daughter in rooming houses, on a factory wage, during the Great Depression. He raised her until she rose up and helped them in their journey through their world. These early experiences shaped her. Their hard world did not crush her, nor make her bitter, because she was protected by an all-encompassing profound love. A love that she shared. It beamed from her and she passed it on to her children, Elaine, John, Mark, and Derrick. Eadie is predeceased by her husband Earl Knight (2018). She will be greatly missed by her children Elaine (Duncan 2019), John (Shelley), Mark, and Derrick (Liz); and by her grandchildren Jason (Elizabeth), Derek (2003), Ian, Scott (Jessica), Taylor (Ben), Erica (1998), and Katie. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren Natasha, Gabriella, Derek and Bella. Eadie’s greatest gift of love endures and lives in all who knew her. She was special! She was Eadie, Mom, Nan and Nanny Knight. She is beyond us now, but lives in the way we treat each other. She is us and we are her. Celebration of life to follow at a later date. A huge thank you goes out to the staff at Villages of Aspen Lake for their compassionate care.
